Semarang - Central Java - VIP

Shore Excursion  to Ambarawa Train Museum  and Scenic Railway trip.
We filled three motor coaches  and as the time table is very tight here in Semarang Harbour, it was necessary with police escort  - one in front and one behind – to make sure that we were back in good time, so the ship could leave the harbor on schedule. The excursion was scheduled to  5 hrs, but the traffic is very heavy and slow, so if we did not have the police escort, we would only have reached  half the distance  in those   5 hrs.  I felt like a “VIP” with that police escort with flashing blue light and Mac-Cloud horn when necessary . I think that most of the old Americans thought it was necessary because of their security, but who really knows ?

The clue of today was a visit to an old Dutch plantation - Coffee – Rubber – Nutmeg – etc. The plantation is now  driven  of the local government and as  an exemplary plantation. They offered you a taste of their coffee product , by giving you a hard roasted coffee bean and a little brown sugar to put in your mouth and chew it well before swallowing it. If you swallow it together with a little cognac, you have the Danish drink called a “koks”, try it !!
